Disclosed is a method for producing a silicon microparticle light-emitting body that emits visible light. The method comprises a sintering step for sintering a mixture that contains a silicon source and a carbon source in an inert atmosphere, a quenching step that quenches the gas formed by the sintering of the mixture to obtain a composite powder and an elimination step for eliminating part of the composite powder. In the elimination step, some of the silicon monoxide and some of the silicon dioxide are eliminated from the silicon micro particles, silicon monoxide and silicon dioxide contained in the composite powder.
