PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermoacoustic engine wherein a large generating capacity is obtained with a small temperature difference and yet heat energy can be taken out. SOLUTION: In the engine, a resonance tube 7 includes an amplifier 13 that includes a heater 10, a regenerator 11, and a cooler 12 arranged in the direction of the tube axis of the resonance tube 7 and amplifies progressive waves traveling in the resonance tube 7 from a loop pipe 2 to a piston 8. The engine includes a receiver 17 that includes a heater 14, a regenerator 15, and a cooler 16 arranged in the direction of the tube axis of the resonance tube 7 between the amplifier 13 in the resonance tube 7 and a generator 9. The receiver converts acoustic energy into heat energy and the cooler 16 is at a temperature lower than that of the atmosphere when a temperature of the heater 14 is at that of the atmosphere.
