PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To guide a vehicle to a destination along an optimum route even if the latest map data about a road related to a route to the destination is not stored in a navigation device. SOLUTION: A navigation device transmits information about the update state of map data stored in the navigation device and information about an own-vehicle position and the destination to a navigation server. The navigation server searches for a recommended route to the destination from the transmitted own-vehicle position as a start place by using the latest map data. The navigation server extracts, as deficiency information, information about a node which is on the recommended route and for which the latest data are not stored in the navigation device on the basis of information about the update state of the map data, and transmits it toe with the recommended route to the navigation device. The navigation device prepares a simplified map 600 on the basis of the deficiency information to guide the vehicle when passing through a place indicated by the node included in the deficiency information.
