The invention relates to a method for folding preferably two metal sheets (1, 2) of a motor vehicle body. According to the invention, the following method steps are provided: placing the metal sheet (1) or metal sheets (1, 2) on the fold bed (3), swivelling in and positioning a holding-down device (4) on the metal sheet (1, 2), sliding the prefold surface (6) disposed on a folding jaw support (8) as far as a stop (16a) into the prefold position by means of a linear drive (12), prefolding by moving the prefold surface (6) onto the metal sheet (1) using a wedge element (10), which is moved by a linear drive (11) relative to the folding jaw support (8), as far as a stop (30), moving the prefold surface (6) and the holding-down device (4) back by moving the wedge element (10) back using the linear drive (11) and the drive (15), sliding the finishing fold surface (7) disposed on the folding jaw support (8) as far as a stop (28) into the finishing fold position by means of a linear drive (12), finish-folding by moving the finishing fold surface (7) onto the metal sheet (1) with the aid of the wedge element (10), which is moved by the linear drive (11), as far a stop (30) and moving the finishing fold surface (7) back by moving the linear drive(s) (11, 12) back into the starting position according to method step a). In the device, the folding jaw support (8) for moving the prefold and finishing fold jaws (6, 7) is connected to a linear drive (11) via a wedge element (10). |
