The disclosed optical acoustic correlator is provided with: a light source (4); a first soundwave propagation unit (3b) which has a transparent first soundwave propagation medium through which compression waves corresponding to a received signal (31) are propagated; a second soundwave propagation unit (3a) which has a transparent second soundwave propagation medium through which second compression waves corresponding to a pre-set reference signal (32) are propagated; an optical system which divides the light emitted from the light source (4) into a first light beam (12) and a second light beam (13) such that the first light beam (12) is incident to the first soundwave propagation unit (3b) and the second light beam (13) is incident to the second soundwave propagation unit (3a), and generates interference light ofthe first light beam having passed through the first soundwave propagation unit (3b) and the second light beams having passed through the second soundwave propagation unit (3a); a light-receiving unit (10) which receives the aforementioned interference light, and outputs an electrical signal corresponding to the intensity of the received light; and a correlation determination unit (39) which determines whether there is a correlation between the received signal (31) and the reference signal (32) by means of observing the electric signal outputted from the light-receiving unit (10).
