PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lane marker detecting apparatus that detects a lane marker with high accuracy. SOLUTION: An image processing ECU acquires data on a road image (S10), extracts an edge point on the basis of the acquired road image (S12), determines an operation modes (S14), and performs frame addition processing (S18 and S20) if a dotted line mode or a frame addition mode is determined (YES in S14). An edge line is extracted thereafter (S22), wherein an edge point is Hough-transformed to extract an edge line that passes the largest number of edge points. The edge line extracted in S22 is defined as a lane marking. In alarm processing (S24), when determining that a vehicle is likely to depart from the lane, the image processing ECU outputs a control signal for a buzzer request to a buzzer.
