PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve reduction of waiting time when release of a power saving state is directed while suppressing power consumption more than in a case where a power saving state of all functional modules is released when release of the power saving state is directed. SOLUTION: When return from a power saving state is directed, a functional module which is in an unusable state is determined based on failure detection information (72-78). In a case where an image forming section is in an unusable state, an image reading section is used in all the processing that an image forming apparatus can execute, so power supply to the image reading section is started (88) before execution of the processing is directed. In a case where the image reading section is in an unusable state, the image forming section is used in all the processing that the image forming apparatus can execute, so power supply to the image reading section is started (98) when the kind of print processing to be executed is selected (YES in 96).
