The method involves actuating a control- or regulating device (3) that is provided to bring a blood treatment device (1) into a state in which blood treatment session of a patient (200) is temporarily interrupted for resumption of the blood treatment session in the state to return extracorporeally treated blood to the patient. Interruption of the blood treatment session is initiated by the control- or regulating device that is controlled by an actuator (4). A blood return line of an extracorporeal blood circuit is connected with a substitute source.
