PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gear tooth flank polishing agent capable of easily achieving the precise and uniform tooth flank finish (polishing) of a driving system gear at low cost, and also effectively achieving the same from the viewpoint of the resource saving, energy saving and environmental protection, and a polishing method using the same. SOLUTION: A polishing agent 2 containing volcanic ash 7 mainly consisting of silica and alumina, lubricating oil 8 and oil clay 9, having plasticity, and freely flowable when the external force is applied thereto is filled in a cylinder 1. A gear 3 is moved in the polishing agent 2, or the polishing agent 2 is allowed to flow while the gear 3 is fixed.
