PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a head cleaning device, a head cleaning method, and an image recording apparatus which can prevent a nozzle face from not sufficiently cleaned due to the defective coating of cleaning liquid when cleaning the nozzle face by coating with the cleaning liquid. SOLUTION: The temperature sensor 250 for detecting temperature change of the nozzle face 104A is arranged in the nozzle face 104A of the recording head 104, The temperature sensor 252 for detecting the temperature of the cleaning liquid is arranged in the cleaning liquid tank 212. The system controller 300 obtains the measuring result of the temperatures by the temperature sensors 250, 252. Further, the system controller 300 determines whether the coating of the cleaning liquid have been successfully carried out based on the measuring result of the temperatures.
