<p>A forged metal seal ring 1 of generally T-shaped cross section with the stem 14 of the à extending radially inwardly is adapted to fit around and in a recess between a pair of abutting or mating pipeline hubs or pipeline ends 2 and 3. It serves to align and abut the bores through said hubs or ends to eliminate or reduce leading edge erosion by fluids or fluent solids such as oil sands conveyed through the pipeline. Preferably it provides a metal to metal seal which may ne supplemented by O-ring seals in grooves 21, 22 in the hubs. The hubs may be pressed together by a multi-segment clamping ring 5 or the hubs could be provided with flanges bolted together by bolts which pass externally of the sea ring. The upstream hub may be provided with a chrome carbide overlay layer on internal surfaces.</p> |
