764,485. Retreading tyres. SIMON (HOLDINGS), Ltd., H. Dec. 2, 1954 [Jan. 15, 1954], No. 1202/54. Class 87(2). A tyre retreading mould is built up from segments 2, 2a, 2b &c. each of a complete width of tread to be moulded and the length of each segment, measured along the circumference which forms the surface of the tyre tread, is approximately a fraction or a multiple of # times a unit of length, to enable moulds of different diameters to be formed from different numbers of segments. The outer sides of the segments are slightly tapered so that the assembly forms a complete ring, and tongues 3 engage slots 4 in adjacent segments to prevent lateral movement. Alternatively dowels may be used. The inner surfaces of the segments are shaped at 5 to give the desired tread pattern and their outer surfaces have grooves 6 which, when aligned, hold steel wires 7 which are tightened and locked, e.g., by turn buckles. Air vents are drilled in suitable places. Helical copper heating tubing is clamped round the periphery of the complete mould, or the mould may be heated electrically or by placing it in steam under pressure. Provision may be made for anti-skid wire coils in the tread.
|
