The device (10) has a lower compensation chamber (44) arranged between a lower side of an extension (36) and a holding device (14). The holding device forms an upper compensation chamber (40) between a lower side of a cylinder head (16) and an upper side of a cylinder liner (20) and an upper side of the extension. The upper compensation chamber stays in fluid connection with the lower compensation chamber by a gas channel (42) that is formed at a rear side of the cylinder liner, where the rear side turned towards the cylinder chamber. An independent claim is also included for a method for measuring a piston group friction in an internal combustion engine.
