[Class 79 (v)] [Also in Group XXXVII] In a vehicle such as a tractor having a gear lever or other control member movable to a plurality of positions in one of which the drive is disconnected, the gear lever is interconnected with actuating means for the selfstarter switch whereby the latter is actuable only when the gear lever is moved into said one position. Such position is preferably one which the gear lever does not enter during normal gear-changing operation, e.g. in a tractor having a gear-box with three selector shafts, two of which move backwards and forwards to give four forward speeds and the third shaft moves one way only to give reverse gear, the third selector shaft can be arranged to move the other way, by means of the gear lever, to actuate the starter switch. Such an arrangement is shown in Fig. 3, wherein the gear lever 3 is shown engaged with such third selector shaft 6, the latter being coupled by a link 9 with a bell-crank 10 to operate the starter switch 7. The switch, Fig. 5, comprises a pair of contacts 13 and a bridge-piece 16 mounted loosely on the spindle 17 and normally held clear of the contacts 13 by a light spring 18. Pressure on the button 12 is transmitted to the bridge-piece by the comparatively strong compression spring 20 to close the circuit. Any further depression of the button 12 is absorbed by the spring 20. |
