The cam shaft phase setting element has a control valve provided with a valve piston (20) that has radial widening, which is surrounded by a complementarily widened housing portion of a valve housing (10), and to which fluid is applied in an axial direction pointing away from an axially facing closure wall (11) to generate an axial pressure force. The widening is dimensioned such that the fluid acts on the valve piston with a pressure force in two axial directions, despite a coupling element (25).
