Flocculent carbon black is fed from hoppers 5 through pipes 4, 4a into rotating drums 1. The output of each drum is divided into three parts, two of which are fed along conveyers 8, 9 to storage bins, whilst the other part (e.g. 20 per cent) is fed by conveyers 10, 11 to the input of an <PICT:0745934/III/1> adjacent drum 1a. The drums are driven at such a speed as to enable the flocculent carbon black and the added pellets to gravitate to the bottom of the drums. The drums may be arranged side by side (as shown), one above the other or in tandem with the output of one adjacent the input of the other. The rates of feeds of the pellets and the flocculent carbon black may be varied. The drums may have scrapers for dislodging deposits of carbon black.
