The method involves measuring optical dispersion of illuminating pieces (1) e.g. display systems, having LEDs. Results of measurements of the optical dispersion are printed as a code i.e. barcode (4), on a label fixed on the illuminating pieces. The code for each illuminating piece is read. Lighting operation of interior lights of a motor vehicle (7) is adjusted to adapt to the optical dispersion of the illuminating pieces. Uniform illumination of the interior lights is obtained during assembling of the motor vehicle.
