<p>Disclosed is a method of manufacture for a porous quartz material comprising a step where a plurality of burners are disposed near an optical fibre core rod; and a deposition step where the burners deposit a plurality of soot layers on the outer surface of the optical fibre core rods. In the deposition step, each one of the plurality of soot layers is formed by one of the burners, and further, when the soot layers have a mean bulk density of x (g/cm3) and an accumulated thickness of y (mm), they fulfil the requirements represented by the formulae 0.2 ? x ?0.5 and 0.1 ? y ?4.0x2-3.8x+1.3, and the plurality of soot layers are accumulated such that their bulk density has a maximum value of 0.6g/cm3 or less.</p> |
