The device has lighting elements placed in periphery of a number plate. The lighting elements have a transparent honeycomb lens (4) comprising a set of facets (41-47) directing the light emitted by an LED toward the number plate. The facets occupy an angular sector around a point of passage of an optical axis (400) for lighting of the LED in the lens. Each facet is formed to deviate the light, which receives and directs toward a target zone of the number plate. The facets present a complex surface to distribute the light uniformly that is received on the number plate.
