PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact air conditioner of low noise capable of performing an energy-saving operation according to air conditioning load. SOLUTION: An air distribution passage (2), a rotary total heat exchanger (4) for allowing the return air and the outside air circulated in the air distribution passage (2) to pass through a rotary heat exchange element (3) to perform total heat exchange, a heat exchange coil (5) for exchanging heat of the air flowing in the air distribution passage (2), and an air supply fan (6) for supplying the air to the air distribution passage (2) to supply the air to an air-conditioned space are prepared in a casing (1). The heat exchange coil (5) and the rotary total heat exchanger (4) are disposed so that an air inlet face (5a) of the heat exchange coil (5) is located orthogonally to an air inlet face (3a) and an air outlet face (3b) of the heat exchange element (3). The air distribution passage (2) is configured so that the return air and the outside air enter from the direction approximately in parallel with the air inlet face (3a) of the heat exchange element (3) and pass through the heat exchange element (3), and the passing air flows out to the direction approximately in parallel with the air outlet face (3b) of the heat exchange element (3).
