PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a die cutter having a blade with sharpness and superior durability by effectively utilizing the processing characteristic in etching, forming a DLC layer, and the like, and to provide a method of manufacturing the die cutter. SOLUTION: In the method of manufacturing the die cutter 1, an etching step for applying physical ion etching onto a cutting edge portion 11 of the die cutter 1 with a machined blade and a coating step for forming a DLC layer are performed alternatively a plurality of times. The die cutter 1, obtained by the method, has a blade machined into the cutting edge width of 5μm. The cutting edge portion 11 of the die cutter 1 is formed into the cutting edge angle of 90-120°, cutting edge width of 0.1μm, and initial cutting load of 1.15 N per blade length of 1 mm or less (provided that the initial cutting load is the load per unit blade length when soft polyvinyl chloride sheet equivalent to JIS K 6732 with a thickness of 0.3 mm is cut).
