PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new therapeutic agent for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and an inhibitor of the progress of ALS. SOLUTION: The therapeutic agent of ALS and the inhibitor of the progress of ALS contain a hepatocyte growth factor (HGF) as an active ingredient and are administered into the spinal cord or the cerebral ventricle. The HGF is preferably administered in an amount of 0.01-100 mg per day. Further, the HGF is preferably administered in an amount that allows the HGF expression level in the spinal cord to be twice or more than that before administration. The HGF is a known substance, and the HGF prepared by various methods can be used if it is purified to such an extent that it can be used as a medicine. COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT
