PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus, which attains uniformization of glossiness of an overall image by preventing regions having different glossiness from being generated on the image to be formed when performing image formation using a transparent toner, and a control method thereof. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus pecifies pixels to be developed using only a black toner out of color toners from an image signal of an image to be formed on a recording material when performing image formation using the transparent toner. Furthermore, the image forming apparatus performs exposure control for the specified pixel so as to perform development using the transparent toner of an amount required to reduce a difference of glossiness between the pixels to be developed using only the black toner and those to be developed using the color toners other than the black toner.
