The method involves disconnecting a liquid sample within a closed cylindrical sample container (1A) i.e. blood sampling device, into two phases with different densities. One of the phases of low density is removed from the sample container and is filled into a usage container, where volume of the usage container amounts to a partial volume of the sample container. The usage container is guided into the sample container through a lockable end (3) of the sample container before closing the sample container, and is sealed against its inner wall. An independent claim is also included for a sample container comprising a closed end.
