<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stably receive signal light, by easily measuring a change in the wavelength dispersion characteristic of a transmission path with high accuracy and by optimizing the dispersion compensation amount of a variable dispersion compensator corresponding to the measurement result. <P>SOLUTION: In an optical transmission system, a plurality of test light beams, whose wavelengths are different from that of a currently operated signal light, are made to go around through a set of transmission lines between opposing terminal stations, time required for each of the test light beams to be propagated up to a specified number of go-around inside the system is measured for each wavelength, a difference in the measured propagation time of each wavelength is delivered to the compensation amount control unit of each terminal station as measurement information related to the change in the wavelength dispersion amount in each transmission line, and the dispersion compensation amount of a variable dispersion compensation unit is optimized on the basis of the measurement information. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT |
