PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image recording apparatus, an image recording method and a dot formation position evaluating method, wherein a landing position error is evaluated with high accuracy, and whether or not nozzles are in an abnormal state is more accurately determined based on the evaluation result. SOLUTION: Grippers (80) are disposed in a recessed part (210) so as not to project over the circumferential surface (204) of a drawing barrel (44). A part of a recording medium (14) having a leading fixation area (14A) held by the grippers (80) is inserted into a pressing part (210). This area of the recording medium is larger than the area where the throw distance from the inkjet head (48) is supported on the circumferential surface. By forming a landing position evaluation pattern (280) on the portion, the positional error in the landing position evaluation pattern is relatively enlarged, accordingly, the landing position error may be evaluated with higher accuracy.
