摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a two-dimensional photonic crystal surface emitting laser light source that is suitable as a light source of an optical pickup, a laser processing device etc., and emits polarized laser light. SOLUTION: The two-dimensional photonic crystal surface emitting laser light source includes: an active layer; a two-dimensional photonic crystal 43 provided on one side of the active layer; and a reflection portion 61 which is provided to at least a part of a periphery of the two-dimensional photonic crystal 43, and formed such that a phase shift of light caused by reflecting light at the reflection portion 61 is larger than -0.5π and smaller than 0.5π. Consequently, a radially polarized annular laser beam is obtained which has an annular sectional shape having no intensity in a center part thereof, and is polarized outward from the center thereof. The radially polarized annular laser beam is condensed to obtain a laser beam whose beam diameter is smaller than a diffraction threshold, so the beam is suitably used as a light source of an optical pickup, a laser processing device etc. COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT
