PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a video intercom system that gradually turns on a lighting unit at night when a visitor comes during nighttime, to improve visibility of video images around the entrance. SOLUTION: An intercom system comprises an entrance slave unit including a camera for imaging a visitor, and an indoor master unit including a monitor for displaying a video image captured by the camera of the entrance slave unit. The intercom system further includes: a call button for a visitor to call a resident; a nighttime determination section for determining illuminance around the entrance slave unit; a nighttime imaging illumination for irradiating the visitor if the nighttime is determined by the nighttime determination section; a face detecting section for detecting a face in the video image captured by the camera; and a nighttime illumination power source adjusting section for gradually increasing power supply control on the nighttime imaging illumination when no face is detected by the face detecting section, and stopping function for the nighttime imaging illumination when a face is detected by the face detecting section.
