PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image-reading apparatus small in delay of processing by gain correction while keeping accuracy of the gain correction in the image-reading apparatus including at least an optical component for irradiating a document with light emitted from a light source to measure light reflected from the document to be converted to an electric signal, and a gain correction means to correct the degree of conversion to the electric signal of the optical component. SOLUTION: The gain correction means repeatedly makes correction in a standby process of this image-reading apparatus to store the latest correction value, stops the correction when an image-reading instruction is input to the image-reading apparatus, and corrects the degree of conversion to an electric signal of the optical component using the latest correction value at the time.
