PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vacuum cleaner with improved accuracy in discriminating a floor surface. SOLUTION: A plurality of kinds of blade members 42, 43 and 44 are made to project outward with different quantities of projection from a shaft 41. As the degrees of contact of the blade members 42, 43 and 44 are different from one another according to the kind of the floor surface, the vibration in the vertical direction of a floor brush 25 generated from the contact of a rotary brush 35 with the floor surface is different according to the floor surface. The kind of the floor surface is discriminated by a body control part based on the integral value of electric waveform output from a vibration detecting means according to the vibration pattern, so that the accuracy in discriminating the floor surface can be improved.
