PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a 2-10C1-alkene polymer using a catalyst composition that exhibits improved productivity and reproducibly maintains constant high quality. SOLUTION: An inorganic oxide as a carrier and a solution of a magnesium compound in a liquefied alkane are mixed together and stirred at 10-120°C for 0.5-5 hours. The excessive double amount of halogen or a hydrogen halide and an aromatic hydrocarbon are added to dialkyl magnesium, wherein the alkyl is a 1-10C alkyl. Then, 20-120 minutes later, the reaction product is reacted with a 1-8C alkanol, a halide or alkoxide of trivalent or tetravalent titanium, and a carboxylic acid ester. The produced mixture is stirred at 10-150°C for 30 minutes. The obtained solid content is filtered and washed. Then, the obtained solid content is extracted with an aromatic hydrocarbon containing at least 5 wt.% of titanium tetrachloride and washed to obtain the catalyst composition.
