The seat belt unit has a multi-layer inflatable seat belt, and a gas producer, which is arranged on one of the layers of the inflatable seat belt, and produces a gas flow during activation, with which the inflatable seat belt is inflatable by one of the layers. The seat belt unit has a taut device, and the gas producer is activated after the activation of taut device. An independent claim is also included for a method for control of a seat belt unit with a multi-layer inflatable seat belt.
