<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a weight gain inhibitory composition that more effectively suppresses weight increase and a food containing the same. <P>SOLUTION: The weight gain inhibitory composition comprises an α-glucosidase activity inhibitory component, preferably a component derived from at least one plant selected from the group consisting of plants of the genus Salacia, Touchi and mulberry and a fat synthesis suppressing component, preferably at least one selected from the group consisting of soybean peptide, a marine animal peptide and sesame lignin.
