PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the cylinder liner from being deformed by a joint wall for joining the halfway portion of a cylinder liner with the cylinder block outer wall that is caused by the axial force at fastening of a bolt. SOLUTION: A halfway portion of a cylinder liner 1 is joined with a cylinder block outer wall 3 having a bolt fastening part 2 for a cylinder head 200 by a joint wall 4. The part between the cylinder liner 1 upper portion and the cylinder block outer wall 3 upper portion above the joint portion serves as a water jacket 5. The part of the cylinder liner 1 below the joint portion is provided as a free end separate from the cylinder block outer wall 3. The joint wall 4 is oriented upward so as to be inclined to the cylinder bore 6 side in a range with the straight line L connecting a joint point P1 with the cylinder block outer wall 3 and a joint point P2 with the cylinder liner 1 not being off the principal seal surface 7 in the periphery of the cylinder bore 6 of the cylinder liner 1.
