PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a ceramic composite member that can improve oxidation resistance and low-friction characteristics of a titanium-based ceramic film while keeping its excellent performance. SOLUTION: The ceramic composite member is manufactured by forming a surface coating film 12 on the surface of a ceramic coating member 11 composed of a substrate 11a and the titanium-based ceramic film 11b thereon. The method includes a step of coating the surface of the ceramic coating member 11 with a treating solution containing a metal salt to produce a compound oxide by reacting with a titanium compound in the titanium-based ceramic film 11b and a following step of producing the compound oxide to form the surface coating film 12 composed of the compound oxide.
