PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a production method capable of obtaining a polyarylene sulfide at a low temperature and in a short time by solving such a problem that a high temperature and a long time is needed when converting a cyclic polyarylene sulfide into the polyarylene sulfide. SOLUTION: The method for producing a polyarylene sulfide includes heating a cyclic polyarylene sulfide in the presence of an organic carboxylic acid compound. A salt of arylacetic acid etc. are included as the organic carboxylic acid compound.
