<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal compound having an excellent balance of physical properties such as exhibiting negative dielectric anisotropy together with having relatively high clear point, relatively small viscosity, a proper optical anisotropy, and excellent compatibility with other liquid crystalline compounds, by solving problems that heretofore known compounds exhibiting negative dielectric anisotropy although exhibiting negative dielectric anisotropy of relatively large numeric value are not appropriate in the balance of properties as a liquid crystalline material because having a low clear point, large viscosity or the like. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal compound is a compound represented by formula (1). In the formula, Ra and Rb are a hydrogen atom or 1-20C alkyl; A<SP>1</SP>, A<SP>11</SP>, A<SP>12</SP>, A<SP>2</SP>, A<SP>21</SP>and A<SP>22</SP>are a cyclic group; Y, W, Z<SP>11</SP>, Z<SP>12</SP>, Z<SP>2</SP>, Z<SP>21</SP>and Z<SP>22</SP>are a bonding group; and j, k, m, n, p and q are 0 or 1 with the proviso that the sum thereof is 1 to 3. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT</p> |
