PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a suction device for vacuum cleaners capable of effectively cleaning a narrow part on a floor surface. SOLUTION: In a housing 10 of this suction device 1 for vacuum cleaners, a sub-suction port 13 of the front face 10B is opened/closed by a shutter 14. When a user wants to clean a narrow part on a floor surface X, the housing 10 is inverted such that the sub-suction port 13 faces the floor surface X, and the shutter 14 is opened. The shutter 14 has intake slots 20 which are adapted to communicate with the housing 10 when the shutter is opened. Accordingly, dust on the narrow part is sucked from the sub-suction port 13 to the interior of the housing 10, so that the dust on a part facing the shutter 14 in the narrow part can be sucked in the interior of the housing 10 from the intake slots 20. A flap member 21 provided in the interior of the housing 10 is operated in conjunction with the opening of the shutter 14 to guide the air and dust flowing from the intake slots 20 to a bend pipe 11.
