ANASTOMOSIS INSTRUMENT AND METHOD FOR PERFORMING THE SAME

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide improved surgical instruments and methods for performing remote anastomoses during both conventional and minimally invasive procedures.

SOLUTION: The surgical instrument 10 includes: a housing 26 having distal and proximal ends and at least one handle 12 attached removably; a loading unit 100 composed to releasably support a plurality of surgical fasteners 260 and attached to the distal end of the housing 26; the handle 12 which is movable from a first position where spaced from the housing 26 to a second position where being closer to the housing 26, and which corporates with an actuator to deform the plurality of surgical fasteners 260 upon the movement of the handle 12 from the first position to the second position; and a retaining ring which is positionable over the plurality of surgical fasteners 260 and dimensioned to fix tissue between the retaining ring and the surgical fasteners 260 after the deformation of the surgical fasteners 260.
