PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an aromatic polyamide staple fiber having improved processability even in a low-humidity condition of the process. SOLUTION: The aromatic polyamide staple fiber to the surface of which an oil is attached is regulated so that the oil may contain 50-95 wt.% of the following component (A), and 5-10 wt.% of the following component (B), and the attached amount of the oil based on the weight of the fiber may be 0.2-0.4 wt.%: (A): an alkali metal salt of a 6-12C phosphoric acid ester in which≥50 wt.% of the ester is a monoester; and (B): an ether compound obtained by adding a 2-3C alkylene oxide to an 8-18C alkylamine. Preferably, the aromatic polyamide fiber is a polymetaphenylene isophthalamide fiber, and the oil contains 6-12 wt.% of the following component (C) besides them: (C): an ethylene oxide adduct of lauryl ether.
