PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To set a proper moving range of a focus lens and AF frame according to a touch to a subject image. SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus changes the moving range of the focus lens according to whether there is a touch or not. If there is a face at the position touched, an AF frame is set in the position and size of the face. If there is no face, the position and size of the AF frame are set on the basis of the correlation of the subject images of the touch position captured in different time. The apparatus prevents erroneous range-finding when there is an object other than the subject such as background in the AF frame, and also prevents erroneous range-finding when the AF frame is too small for a large subject.
