PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that an aqueous dispersion of a polymer particle having an average particle size of about 1-5μm and obtainable by a seed polymerization method, an emulsion polymerization method or improved suspension polymerization method requires many processes and corresponding facilities, and a sedimented particle forms hard cake, and to provide an aqueous dispersion of a polymer particle which can be produced easily at a low cost, has an average particle size of about 1-5μm, has excellent dispersion stability and can suppress the formation of hard cake. SOLUTION: The aqueous dispersion of a polymer particle contains a 3-60 mass% vinyl monomer having a solubility to water of less than 3 mass% and having 3 or more carbon-carbon double bonds and is obtained by polymerizing a monomer mixture containing 90-100 mass% of the vinyl monomer (including the monomer) having a solubility to water of less than 3 mass%, wherein the polymer particle has an average volume particle size of 1-5μm.
