PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide coping with problems while an installation worker is present even when using a detachable air filter, and there is a problem such as air filter attachment defectiveness in a cleaning mechanism control method for an air conditioner. SOLUTION: An air conditioner operation starting means is provided for sending a signal to start operation, an air conditioner operation start reading and outputting means is provided for reading and outputting the signal from the air conditioner operation starting means, a power source initial input distinguishing means is provided for distinguishing whether or not a power source of the air conditioner is being inputted for the first time, and a power source initial input existence/nonexistence storing means is provided for storing whether or not the power source of the air conditioner is being inputted for the first time. A cleaning mechanism is actuated by output from the power source initial input distinguishing means and output from the power source initial input existence/nonexistence storing means. Even when there is a problem in attachment of the air filter, during power source initial input of the air conditioner, namely, during a trial run carried out after the air conditioner is installed by the installation worker, the cleaning mechanism is driven such that the attachment defectiveness of the air filter is found while the installation worker is present, and the problem can be dealt with at an early stage.
