<PICT:0755912/III/1> <PICT:0755912/III/2> <PICT:0755912/III/3> Apparatus for the production of dispersions, suspensions, or emulsions comprises two relatively rotatable surfaces one of which carries nozzles and the other carries teeth or edges arranged in, or separated by, cavities or chambers. As shown in Fig. 3 the material to be treated flows under centrifugal force through nozzles a on the circumference of a rotor member and impinges on knife edges e arranged between the teeth 2a of a stator member. The knife edges are adjustable by external nuts and may be brought into resonant oscillation. In another embodiment, Fig. 6, a preliminary dispersion system comprising blades 6, 61 is provided, and the nozzles a and teeth g2 are associated with rolling chamber g1 as described in Specification 755,822. Fig. 9 shows a construction with only four nozzles which co-operate with hemispherical cavities b on the stator; different materials may be supplied to each nozzle. In alternative constructions Figs. 11-18 (not shown), the nozzles and teeth are inclined to the radius of the machine, so that the energy of flow of the material is used to assist in driving the rotor. The nozzles may be mounted on the stator instead of the rotor, and may be outside the teeth. When the nozzles are not on the rotor, material may be driven through the apparatus by gravity, by a pump, or by gas pressure. |
