<p>Metal complexes have formula (5) wherein X1is carbon; X2is carbon or nitrogen; M is ruthenium, rhodium, palladium, osmium, iridium or platinum; Z1is an optionally substituted aromatic hydrocarbon ring or heteroaromatic ring (or ring fused derivative thereof); Z2is an optionally substituted aromatic hydrocarbon ring (or ring fused derivative thereof); A represents a group of one of the following formulae: C(R501)(R502)N(R503), C(R501)(R502)P(R504),C(R501)(R502)Si(R505)(R506),C(R501)(R502)P(=O)(R507), C(R501)(R502)SO2, Si(R505)(R506)N(R503), Si(R505)(R506)P(R504), Si(R505)(R506)Si(R505)(R506), Si(R505)(R506)p(=O)(R507) and Si(R505)(R506)SO2The other variables are as defined in claim 1. The metal complex may have a defined proportion (%) of the sum of squares of orbital coefficients of the outmost d orbital of M; it may have a defined dihedral angle; it may have defined %/eV value. The complex may be useful in polymers, compositions, films, light emitting devices and solar batteries.</p> |
