A telescopic or concertina-like cover for a slideway G, Fig. 5, of a machine-tool comprises lazy-tong-like supports 4 to ensure even extension of the cover-members 1. The covermembers may slide over one another, Figs. 3 and 5, or may be hinged to one another, Fig. 4a. The end-members of a series of tapering covermembers, Fig. 3, may be hinged at 5 to the machine so that the covers are steeply inclined when in the closed position to allow chips to fall off. Packing may be provided between the members to prevent the ingress of dust. It is stated in the Specification that concertina-like covers are known in which the members are connected by springs.</p> |
