Laser diode structure with reduced noise

The assembly (1) has a laser diode (6) arranged in a hermetically sealed housing (2), and a temperature control unit (9) carrying the diode. An optical element e.g. collimator lens (10) or tilted mirror, is positioned at a distance to the diode, and guides and shapes a laser beam (7). An electrically controllable operating device (14) cyclically changes position and/or alignment of the element to the diode by moving the element so that optical path length between the diode and element continuously varies in magnitude of wavelength of the laser beam in a periodically oscillating manner.
