Method for the direct reduction of iron (DRI) from iron minerals, using gas resulting from carbon containing sulphur and BTX compounds, where said gas is heated preferably in a regenerative-type heater where heat is transferred from a solid previously heated to said gas resulting from carbon. The heated gas is passed through a bed of DRI particles, iron oxides or the like material outside said reduction reactor, said material adsorbing the sulphur compounds and destroying the BTX. The effluent gas of this treatment, sulphur- and BTX-free, is combined with a reductor gas stream extracted from the reduction reactor from which H2O and CO2 have been partially separated in order to regenerate the reductor power, the gas combination being supplied to the reduction zone of the reduction reactor at a temperature of from about 750°C to about 1100°C. The invention allows gases resulting from carbon to be effectively used, including coke gas, with or without a previous cleaning process, for prod ucing DRI. In another embodiment of the invention, DRI is produced at a high temperature with advantages of productivity and power savings upon using said DRI in an electric furnace for producing steel, also being advantageous in that the operation costs are reduced.
|
