The present invention relates to a tilt hinge module for a portable terminal and to a method for operating same, wherein the tilt hinge module comprises: a lower plate configured to be mounted on a main body of a portable terminal; a middle plate having one end hingedly connected to the lower plate; an upper plate disposed at an upper portion of the middle plate and rotatably and slidably mounted on the other end of the middle plate so as to be connected to a moving body tilted against the main body; and a guide module disposed at a front portion of the middle plate, an upper end of the guide module being hingedly connected to the other end of the upper plate, and a lower end of the guide module being slidably connected to the lower plate. According to the present invention, the other end of the middle plate is slidably mounted on the upper plate, and a range of the upper plate sliding against the lower plate when the upper plate is tilted increases such that a usable area of the main body of the portable device increases.
