Apparatus for vision enhancement for a mammalian eye that contains nanoparticles. The apparatus includes an image capturing device, an image transformation device, and an output device. The image capturing device is coupled to the image transformation device. The image transformation device is coupled to the output device. The image capturing device is arranged for registration of an image as image signal. The image transformation device is arranged for receiving the image signal from the image capturing device and for transforming the image signal to a transformed image signal, and the output device is arranged for producing an optical output signal. The image transformation device is arranged for producing the transformed image signal as a control signal for the output device with such characteristics that the optical signal is adapted for interaction with the nanoparticles by absorption and heat generation in nanoparticles. The nanoparticles are positioned in or on cells or cellular compartments of the retina of the mammalian eye.
